The old-fashioned Christmas! - Christmas lecture by Geir Thomas Risåsen
Christmas is our oldest and most traditional holiday. It's a holiday we all have a relationship with. But how well do we know these traditions?
Geir Thomas Risåsen is conservator at the Norwegian Folk Museum and will talk about some of our common traditions such as Christmas baking, the Christmas Eve dinner, the Christmas tree and the Christmas tree in addition to the walk around the Christmas tree. Some of these traditions go back a long way, others came about during the 19th century, some we have received from abroad, while others are very special for our Nordic countries.
In the pleasure garden Marienlyst, we decorate a fir-scented Christmas tree for the Christmas market on Sunday 1 December. It has glitter and Norwegian flags, homemade bows and kremmerhus and a shiny spire at the top, as you would see it in a Norwegian home 100 years ago. Come to the lecture and be inspired!
