Cultural preparedness – fund to ensure museums' preservation of cultural heritage
Welcome to the panel debate in Multisal 2 at Union Stage during Cultural Expression, Wednesday 25 June at 12.45!
The new comprehensive emergency preparedness plan emphasizes the importance of cultural heritage for the nation's preparedness. Society's ability to handle crises depends on the tangible and intangible values that create identity, belonging, and meaning.
Cultural heritage is a crucial resource in the country's preparedness.
Cultural heritage is more vulnerable than ever due to climate change, reduced access to craft skills, weakened core funding for museums, and limited grant schemes. There is an urgent need for increased investment in protecting community cultural heritage.
The museums manage 5,000 historic buildings on behalf of the community and have a social responsibility to preserve both tangible and intangible cultural heritage. However, current resources are insufficient to fulfill this mission.
In light of the newly established Church Preservation Fund, there is a corresponding need for a state fund to ensure the preservation of antiquarian museum buildings.
Here, representatives of the museums meet with key parliamentary politicians from the Family and Culture Committee for a debate. The panel debate is in Multisal 2 at Union Scene.
The event is a collaboration between the Norwegian Museums Association, Drammens Museum and the Buskerud Museums.
Med: Tage Pettersen (H), Åslaug Sem-Jacobsen (Sp), Julie Vaage (V), Even Røed (Ap) og Ole Aastad Bråten (styreleder i Norges Museumsforbund) m.fl. Debatten ledes av Tom Oddby (Buskerudmuseene).
