Drammens Museum 3.0 – welcome to the open house and cake party! 

A new chapter, built on 150 years of commitment

Drammens Museum is entering a new phase. After 30 years as a comprehensive art and cultural history museum, we look forward, with the ambition to become the best possible Drammens Museum. We call it Drammens Museum 3.0. 

We want to celebrate this with the whole city, and therefore mark it with Open house and cake party September 12th at 12-2pm. There will be speeches, musical performances, cakes and non-alcoholic bubbles.
Free admission all day! 

Drammens Museum 3.0 is not about starting over. It is about building on the work, commitment and knowledge that generations before us have put in.

What does that mean for the audience?

We will:

• Open more of the museum's buildings and venues to the public
• Creating activity throughout the museum – year-round
• Keeping old houses alive and passing on traditional crafts to new generations
• Making art, collections, buildings, parks and gardens more accessible
• Placing the museum's collections in larger historical contexts
• Highlighting the industrial history of Drammen and Berger
• Meet the audience with good hosting, hospitality and communication.

From 1.0 to 3.0

The museum's history is built by people who have seen the value of preserving art, culture and history – and who have wanted to make this accessible to more people.

1.0 – The commitment that started it all

Drammen Art Association was founded in 1867. In 1908, Drammen Museum Association was established. Through efforts from associations, the municipality, the county council and individuals, the collections and the museum's venues grew. Marienlyst farm, Austad farm and Gulskogen farm were established, along with the open-air museum at Bragernesåsen and the Lychepaviljongen.

2.0 – A unified museum

In 1996, the forces were combined into one joint, self-owned foundation: Drammens Museum. The consolidation marked a new chapter and laid the foundation for the museum as we know it today. Over the past 30 years, the development has been possible through close and long-term cooperation with Drammen Municipality and Buskerud County Municipality.

3.0 – Open the museum more

Now we take the next step.

Drammens Museum 3.0 is about making more of the museum accessible, with more buildings, more activity, stronger communication and even better hosting. We will take care of the buildings and collections, continue knowledge and traditions and at the same time develop the museum as a vibrant regional cultural actor.

The way forward

The museum's vision is to be a central meeting place where everyone can experience history, culture and art in green surroundings.

In the years ahead, we will strengthen the museum's role as a regional cultural actor and build on an identity rooted in Drammen as a regional capital, port and industrial city - and in the meeting between urban and rural culture that our collections tell about.

Among the initiatives going forward are:

• Marienlyst farm is reopened to the public.
• Austad farm will be renovated and developed as a cultural meeting place for the local community and the city's clubs and associations.
• We will strengthen the work of building protection and traditional crafts and make knowledge accessible through programs and activities.
• The art collections in the Lyche Pavilion will receive a renewed presentation.
• Gulskogen farm will be further developed in line with urban development in Gulskogen North.
• From 2027, the museum will take over the operation and management of Berger Museum, with the textile industry history in the Berger and Fossekleven factories as a starting point.

We stand on the shoulders of those who came before us.

It is their commitment that has made the museum what it is today. Now it is our task to continue this and open the museum to even more people.

Drammens Museum 3.0 is therefore both a tribute to history and an invitation to the future.
