Graffiti
Drammen is a city with a lot of graffiti and street art, and we have one of Norway's largest legal graffiti walls down by the harbour. But what is graffiti? And what is street art?
The students get a small introduction to some of the visual expressions in the public space, with a focus on the original, namely graffiti. Graffiti is simply pure writing. We look at how the script first became part of the cityscape in the USA, and how this spread to Norway. We will deal with different types of graffiti, fonts, and the students will learn to build their own "piece" in the workshop afterwards. We want the students to become more aware of what exists of various non-commercial expressions in the public space, as a counterweight to advertising which otherwise characterizes the city visually. One goal is that the students will learn to "read" these artistic expressions. Then it can be more exciting to walk around the city! The streets become like a free gallery!

Before the museum visit
- Prepare students for their visit to the museum. Talk a bit about how to behave as a visitor to galleries and museums.
- Talk to students about what graffiti is? What is StreetArt? Have they seen any street art in their local area?
After the museum visit
- Practice writing their name in different graffiti styles. Go to YouTube and watch more instructional videos.
- Make an exhibition of the "piece" you made at the museum.
- Make street art in the schoolyard! In this way, one can leave positive traces in one's immediate environment. Here are some tips: All students knit a patch each, which is sewn together and forms a blanket for a bench, possibly they sew together around a tree, bike rack, etc. Weave thread, cloth strips into metal fences around the schoolyard.
- Go in and find street art from Drammen and the whole world inside this map: https://drammen.streetartcities.com/
